Character Creation Rules

Character Choices

Players are permitted to employ the class hybrid rules in PHB3.
Players may freely use any race/class from PHB 1, 2 or 3. This includes the Shardmind, but I will need to think about how to change its back-story in order to fit into the campaign (which I won't do until someone really wants to play one).

Players may also employ:
  • the Changeling and Kalashtar races from Eberron
  • the Genasi race from Forgotten Realms
  • the Swordmage class from Forgotten Realms
  • the Bladeling race from Manual of the Planes (although with a back-story change)
  • the Shadar-kai race from Dragon Magazine 372

Prohibited classes/races.

The following races and classes have been prohibited because they simply don't fit into the campaign narrative.
  • The Drow (FR) and Warforged (Eberron) races.
  • The Artificer (Eberron) class
  • Races from the Monster Manuals (Gnoll, Hobgoblin, Kobold, etc)
  • Dark Sun specific classes/races (this will be subject to review when the books come out, but assume not for the moment).
If a player wants to use a race and/or class from some other source they must give the DM at least one week’s notice in order to consider the potential impact. The DM reserves the right to prohibit any new classes/races for narrative reasons.

Altered Races
Half-orcs do not exist. However there is a race called Neands. The Neands are a humanoid race from a mountainous region in southern Yvennde, and they do not have Orc ancestry. (This change is purely for narrative purposes -  in game terms Neands are identical to Half-orcs as detailed in PHB2.)
